What I Like About Summer

Today's supposed to hit 95, and if yesterday is any indication, it will.

Every year at this time I end up blogging about why I hate summer. I don't want to do that this time. What I'd rather do 1077204-1574217-thumbnail.jpgis concentrate on the positives about this season. I'm not trying to be facetious when I say there must be something good about summertime. I may have to include some childhood stuff in this list, just to flesh it out a bit.  Let me just gulp down some hot coffee and here I go:

What I Like About Summer

by Beautifuldreamer

  1. The berries which grow wild in this part of the country.
  2. During the summer months of my childhood, I could hide out in my backyard fort every chance I got.
  3. The Ice Cream Truck. Every neighborhood has one and, old as I am, I'm not above scrounging for change when I hear the tinny music blaring a few streets away. (My father drove an ice cream truck when I was little, so this adds to the pleasure of the whole ritual.)
  4. Drinking iced-tea by the gallons.
  5. Seeing flowers decorating yards everywhere I go.
  6. GARAGE SALES. Oh mama, this (are you paying attention Austin?) is my real addiction.
  7. When I was a kid summertime meant more hours playing outside, away from the step dad's probing hands.
  8. Strawberry shortcake with whipped cream.
  9. Watermelon. (Seems like I'm rather focused on food!)
  10. Going to the movies to get away from the heat. I love movies anyhow, but there's something about watching them in air-conditioned comfort during the hot months that pleases me.
This isn't a great list, but it's what I could come up with. Don't you think it beats glooming once more about how I can't stand this season? Everything I've mentioned is what will make the next several months bearable. That includes the childhood memories I've listed: they help me endure yet another depressing time of year when I'd rather just hide away, and not deal with life at all.

Hi Beauty...its a wonderful list, and one that I can relate to. Those are excellent reasons to love summer.

I have no idea what this entry is about cause I can't get past the sunflower. My little one's keep doing the happy clap and that really makes it difficult to read. I'll just make up some support... wing it so to speak.....
You go girl! That's what I'm talking about. What a show of strength. Now that's healing.

I have no idea what this entry says cause my eyes won't leave the sunflower and my little one's keep clapping. What's a girl to do? I hope everything is okay cause like I said, I couldn't get past the sunflower.

Austin,
I tried to upload a photo of daisies but for some reason it wouldn't work. Finally in desperation I settled for the sunflower . . . guess it was meant to be. Glad your little ones liked it!

Now that I'm in a more grounded spot and I've read your entry I can see that some of my fake support earlier was right on. You did a good job of coming up with some of the good things about summer. I think you did it without denying the bad and that is especially good.

I have another friend not fond of this season at all. She is most depressed during spring and summer.

Who can resist a good garage sale? I do so love them...in fact I just went to one last Wednesday.
