So many of us women have been in abusive relationships with men who demean, hit, mock, control and in general do everything in their power to whittle us down to nothing. If you are in a relationship you're not comfortable with because of any of these behaviors, You Are Not Crazy is an excellent resource providing insight for understanding your situation, and encouragement to give yourself permission to leave.

Strength to Your Sword Arm

I came across this phrase today and found it intriguing.  Strength to your sword arm.  The very sound of it puts me in mind of gladiators and crusaders, of times when fighting was done not with impersonal guns and bullets, but with the force of the sum total of one's brute strength.

The sword arm, from what I've been able to dig up on the subject, refers to the right arm.  I discovered also that there are many references to this in the Bible:

English: New American Standard Bible
  Psalms 44
3 For by their own sword they did not possess the land,
And their own arm did not save them,
But Your right hand and Your arm and the light of Your presence,
For You favored them.
  Psalms 89
13 You have a strong arm;
Your hand is mighty, Your right hand is exalted.
  Psalms 98

A Psalm. O sing to the LORD a new song,
For He has done wonderful things,
His right hand and His holy arm have gained the victory for Him.

How do we strengthen our sword arms today, we who fight invisible battles?

  • We strengthen them every time we sit before our computers and write our truths, sharing our sufferings and struggles with like-minded survivors.

This may not seem like much, this telling of our individual stories but what courage it takes to face the blank monitor once again and find it within ourselves to sort out truth from distortion, and to recognize for what they are the lies we tell ourselves as a way to avoid emotional pain.

"In your quest for justice and vegeance you will need great strength . . . for your sword arm must have no equal."  (from Red Sonya)

Strength to your sword arm:  I imagine this phrase as a sort of greeting between two warriors, or perhaps an equivalent to today's take care.

A greeting. A way of saying goodbye, a blessing

Strength to your sword arm,
