Because I receive a monthly hard copy of Many Voices, I'd forgotten about their website. When I stumbled across it just now and began reading its Monthly Queries column, I knew I'd have to share it with my readers. You can send in questions of your own, or respond to those who are having a hard time dealing with their DID. (They will also send you a free copy of their magazine.)

There's a Haircut in My Future

I've been puttering around the house all day, trying to find places for all the things inherited from Sissyface. The conclusion I've come to is that my little snug won't hold much more--thank goodness I have a full basement for storage!

I spent way too much time trying to locate the other pair of drapes for my living room. I haven't had them up because I didn't have a curtain rod. After looking everywhere I could think to look (including the basement) it suddenly occurred to me that I'd bought only one pair of drapes for the biggest window in the living room, and they're already up. So all that looking for nothing! To top it off, I decided to rearrange my room, which involved moving my TV. Did I wait for my son to come home and lift it for me? Of course not. So I've no business sniveling about my aching back (but notice how cleverly I managed to mention it anyhow.)

I just packed and addressed a box of goodies (or "crunchy-cronies" as my auntie would say) for a good friend. I didn't think I'd be able to send it this soon, but I came into some unexpected money today. With this money I'll be able to get caught up on my electricity and cable, and pay my brother back the last bit of loan money I owe. Oh! I almost forgot that now I'll be able to get that haircut I've been dying for. I'll use the gift certificate I got from the bartender at the pub to pay for most of it, maybe I'll even buy some salon shampoo. There's just no telling what I might do. I figure this is my contribution to beautifying my world. Who wants to see a nana walking around in her do-it-yourself-haircut? Does the world need this?

I got my area rug back from someone I'd loaned it to a year ago; it matches everything in my living room and adds to the coziness factor. I'd forgotten how much I like it.

I've knit 3 hats so far for my "hats for orphans" project. I'm also working on a pair of hand warmers, and a long scarf to give as Christmas gifts. You might say I've been busy, but it doesn't feel that way. I've felt at loose ends, really, as if I'm doing nothing more than walking in place. But I've evidence otherwise.

Time to head over to Maddy's for supper. I think we're having steak tonight, oh yum! Oh, I just found out from Sissyface that my birthday celebration is going to be delayed by 2 weeks, mostly due to her moving. Can you believe that I, who so love it, won't have cake on my birthday? Man, maybe I'll just have to buy myself one and not share a crumb of it. It would serve everyone right!

Get yourself some cake woman! Cake, cake, cake (continues chant and pounds fork on the table.)
Very cute hats. :0) I found a hat that matches my fingerless gloves you made perfectly.

I am so excited!!! Somehow I missed your earlier post about the knitting for orphans project. But after seeing those hats I went all over your blog and read all about it!! I am excited because my daughter is reading a book about AIDS orphans and she has been wanting to do something about it (the book is actually also about a boy who started raising money for the orphans through basketball, but it is very encouraging about finding your own way to help someone doing the things that you love) and this is going to be perfect! I taught myself how to knit last year (and I'm obsessed with it) and she has been wanting to learn so badly, and this is going to be the perfect opportunity for her to learn. The squares will be easy enough for her (no crazy stitches or increases/decreases) to do, and she will be super excited that they are going to make a difference in the lives of a group of people that she is so passionate about. Also, this is something that I am passionate about, so we will both be able to do something constructive. So awesome!!! Thank you thank you thank you for posting about this.

Your hats look great! And buy yourself a cake-you deserve it (and it's yummy!!)

Tricia,

How fun to think of you and your daughter knitting away while I'm doing the same. (Isn't knitting so relaxing? I read the other day that it lowers your heart rate: (http://knitting.about.com/b/2007/08/20/knitting-for-stress-relief.htm) When I came across the website my heart really went out to these orphans. I don't know where you live, but it'd be neat if there was a way we could consolidate the postage to Africa!

You must post photos of what you and your daughter end up with--or at least send photos to me in an email!
